The Week of Batallón Mormons

Week number 2 with Elder Reyes week super well!! Jason's baptism went great, despite them calling us the night before to ask to change the hour of the baptism.... We had to change it from the afternoon to 9 in the morning, not many members showed up to his baptism... but besides that it went extremely well!!

This week we were able to find a couple more people to teach that we think really have a lot of potential to progress! We're excited to see how everything comes along with them! Unfortunately neither of them came to church.... which was their loss cause they didn't get to hear me give my tenth talk in the mission!!!!! WAHOOOOOO! Haha!  We showed up to church and the second counselor in the bishopric gave Elder Reyes and I the news that they needed us to speak cause they didn't have anyone else.   It went fairly well actually, it's really just teaching a lesson by yourself to a group of people without asking questions. I was quite pleased after sacrament meeting ...until, bishop asked me to start the gospel principles class until he got there to take over... of course he got there with 10 minutes left in the class.  Safe to say it wasn't my most peaceful Sunday...  :)

After church we ate lunch (a sister made us hamburgers, hotdogs, and french fries, it was delish) ... then we had to head over to the stake center to meet with all the other missionaries to hop on a bus to go to Cardel for an activity called, Un Batallón Mormon. This is when basically all the missionaries get together in one area with the members of that area and we all go on divisions to visit less active members, knock doors, and visit investigators. It was pretty fun, especially since I got paired with a member who has a car. Earlier that week on Wednesday we had another Batallon Mormon in the Reserva ward, which was also a fun experience (even though that time my comp didn't have a car).

Jason's baptism!!

Our delish lunch!  Members take good care of us!

Hope you all have a great week!

I Need to Grow my Hair Out

HOLA! My first week with Elder Reyes went super well! I really can't believe that he has only one week in the mission field, he already knows what he is doing! The most surprising thing about him is that he loves knocking doors! It took me like five months to overcome my fear to talk to people in the streets!!!!! Hahaha it was definitely a pleasant surprise. However, this week was difficult to knock doors because every single person here is watching the world cup!!! The fun part is that we've learned very well how to connect soccer to the gospel! Haha, also we don't complain to loudly when we go to eat lunch in the members' homes and they're watching the games.  They are obsessed with soccer here! You can imagine how crazy the streets were yesterday... Mexico beat the defending champs, Germany, and it was father's day! Basically everyone was partying yesterday.

Elder Reyes and our super delicious sandwich.
The most interesting experience we had this week was when a man just started talking to us in the street.  He just came up and asked if we believe in reincarnation.... And then, before we could get in a word, he just went off about his beliefs on how we are eternal beings, created by God, and his most interesting claim, that the longer our hair is the better our communication with God. That's why Jesus had long hair, he had the best communication with God... It didn't make a lot of sense, especially since he had short hair. However, it was interesting to talk with him and to see that everyone has different beliefs, and we all have a right to believe what we want to believe.

Another interesting experience was when we were knocking doors and when we knocked on one door, a man answered and before we could say anything, he asked, "do you speak English?" Turns out this man had lived in New York as well as Florida and had made a very decent living over there. He came back here because his mom was sick and while here, he got robbed and beat up. He was in a coma for a little while! But he still remembers his English perfectly! He doesn't even have an accent! He let us in to teach him but he didn't come to church.. It was fun teaching in English and hopefully we can help him progress!

We are planning to have a baptism this Saturday for a man named Jason! He has special needs and he is super awesome! He remembers a ton of what we teach, and he is reading everything we leave for him to read!  So if everything goes well, he will be baptized this Saturday! But yeah that's more or less my week! I'm happy to be with Elder Reyes and we hope to accomplish a lot here in Tecno! Miss you all, have a great week! Happy Fathers Day!!!

I introduced Elder Reyes to PANCAKES!!  He has never tasted them before!

New companion .. and more

Hi Everyone!

This week was actually a little more interesting than normal... President Palmer came to our ward to talk with the Bishop about a member that he knows is preparing for a mission and needs more support.  It was quite interesting to see him in our ward.  Also that same Sunday,  I got a phone call from President telling me that I'M TRAINING a new missionary! Today I went to the offices to pick up my new companion.  His name is Elder Reyes, he's from Chile and seems super nice! I'm excited but also nervous. It was way fun to go to the mission offices because when I got there... I saw my trainer there, and it turns out he is training again! Also Elder Barnum from my CCM group is training too! It was cool to be there. But yeah, I'm excited and we shall see how it goes!

with my trainer!

with my new companion!

with President and Sister Palmer!

with the mission "fam" ... Elder Seely (in the middle) trained, Mendez... who trained me ... and I am training Reyes!

Have a great week!
